They may not be getting older, but Andrew Taggartand and Andrew Pall of The Chainsmokers are having the best week ever.
Last night (Aug. 28), the DJ duo performed their new single “Closer,” featuring American singer/songwriter Halsey, live at the MTV Video Music Awards 2016. The live-broadcast drew 8.3 million viewers, according to Billboard, and was the artist’s first VMA performance.
The Chainsmokers seemed to ditch their usual main stage energy and presence for a more intimate showcase of their music. So intimate, Taggartand and Halsey got within a gasp of kissing each other during their passionate duet. The two were so adorable on-stage together that you almost don’t notice how flat Taggartand is singing the entire time.
The Chainsmokers were also nominated for Song of the Summer for “Closer,” and Best Electronic Video for “Don’t Let Me Down.” Not coming out victorious in either category, the guys can find solace in the fact “Closer” just reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, after debuting just a few weeks ago.
The collaboration with Halsey is “dedicated to anyone that hooked up with their EX and right after remember all the reasons why they broke up,” and due to the popularity of the song, apparently millions of listeners can relate.
